The church of St. George in Prince Albert was built between 1957-1960 but the community has been around since the early twentieth century. In 1910, Prince Albert was visited by the Metropolitan Andrei Sheptytsky, who celebrated the Divine Liturgy in the Roman Catholic Cathedral of the Sacred Heart.
Ukrainian Catholics built their first church in the city in 1920 which stood proudly until 1957, when work on the present structure was begun. This imposing structure was designed by Volodymyr Sichensky and decorated by the Saskatoon artist, Theodore Baran.
The beautiful church was blessed by Bishop Andrew Roberecki in 1961.
At present, the church of St. George in Prince Albert is the seat of the Prince Albert-Cudworth pastoral district with affiliated parishes at Nipawin, Rosthern, Cudworth, Tway, Wakaw, Alvena Town, St. Julien. Other parishes that are attended to by Prince Albert are at Alvena Farms, Carpenter-Hory, Gronlid, Samburg, and Sokal.
