History

The church of the Patronage of the Blessed Virgin Mary in St. Julien was constructed in 1926 on a plot of land eleven miles west of the town of Wakaw. It was the third church of the community. The first church had been built by the first settlers shortly after they had arrived in the late nineteenth century. This church was replaced by another structure in 1909 which served the Catholic community until ownership was transferred to the Ukrainian Greek Orthodox Church. Local Ukrainian Catholics built the present church for their use in 1924. It was blessed by Bishop Basil Ladyka in 1933 and consecrated by Bishop Andrew Roberecki in 1955. It continues to be lovingly cared for by its devoted congregation.
The parish of the Patronage of the Blessed Virgin Mary at St. Julien is served by clergy from Prince Albert.
