Fr. Warren Dungen
The first Ukrainian Catholic Church in our provincial capital was built between 1925 and 1928. Before this, Divine Liturgies were celebrated in Blessed Sacrament Roman Catholic Church (at that time called St. Mary’s.)
Consecrated in 1939 by Bishop Basil Ladyka, this building was used until 1960, when it was dismantled to make space for a parking lot next to a beautiful new church building. During this time of growth both a new rectory and an education centre-hall were built in 1968 and 1978 respectively.
St. Basil Parish is the seat of the St. Basil and Montmartre Pastoral District and provides spiritual and pastoral care to the following parishes: Montmartre, Ss. Peter and Paul; Candiac, Descent of the Holy Ghost; Grenfell, Ss. Peter and Paul; Weyburn, Holy Trinity; and Tribune, Holy Family.
