The first Church of the Descent of the Holy Ghost was built in 1935 and stood proudly until it was destroyed by a lightning strike. The community came together to rebuild, completing the present church in 1958.
The first Ukrainians arrived in this area in 1903 and established churches in the rural districts around Buchanan. Over time, as people relocated to town, the need for a church became evident. The Church of the Descent of the Holy Ghost continues to be well cared for by its congregation.
It is served by clergy from the nearby parish in Canora.
