History

St. Athanasius was established in 1966 as the second Ukrainian Catholic parish in the city of Regina. From that point until 1971, the congregation worshiped in the Archbishop M.C. O’Neill High School Auditorium. The present church was built in phases between 1971 and 1978 and was beautifully decorated in the 1990s with impressive mosaic icons.
It is the seat of the St. Athanasius and Moose Jaw District and provides spiritual care for the following parishes: Assumption of the Blessed Mother of God in Moose Jaw; Ss. Peter and Paul in Chaplin-Thunder Creek; Ss. Peter and Paul in Hodgeville; and Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Glentworth.
