Though the present church was built in 1963, the Ukrainian Catholic community in the countryside around the town of Rosthern is one of the earliest communities in the eparchy. Ukrainian settlement in the area began in 1897 and was organized around two rural churches. The church of the Descent of the Holy Spirit at Rostern Farms (Adamiwka) was organized in 1902 and is still used. The second church burned to the ground in 1963. IT was dedicated to the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary and had been organized in 1904.
The need for a church in town was felt in years after World War II. The parish purchased a small church from the local Lutheran community in 1952. By 1960, the community had outgrown this church and so it was dismantled. The present church was completed in 1963.
Rosthern is pastorally cared for by clergy from the parish of St. George at Prince Albert.
