The need for a second Ukrainian Catholic Church in Saskatoon became apparent within a few years of the construction of St. George’s on the west side of the river. In 1954, Bishop Andrew Roborecki invited the Redemptorist Fathers to establish a new parish, appointing Fr. Volodymyr Korba, C.Ss.R., as its first pastor.
That year, the community purchased a large plot of land in East Nutana, and construction began shortly afterward with a basement church. The main body of the church was completed in 1961, and the parish quickly became one of the most active in the eparchy.
The church is a large, blown-concrete structure in the form of an extended barrel-vaulted cross. In 1976, an iconostasis was installed, and the sanctuary was decorated by the artist George Sviatoslav Hordynsky, who employed a modern and simplified style of traditional iconography to complement the architecture.
The Church of Ss. Peter and Paul in Saskatoon continues to be served by the Redemptorist Fathers.
