Fr. Andre Lalach
Ukrainian settlement in the Smuts district began in 1900 with settlers predominantly from the Borshchiv and Horodenka counties. The people constructed their first church in 1905 on the site of what is now their parish cemetery. After a fire destroyed this church in 1925, a second church was built. This building was moved into the village of Smuts in 1954 where it stands today. Archbishop Ladyka blessed the church in 1934.
The church of St. John the Baptist is lovingly cared for by its parishioners. Divine Liturgy is celebrated regularly in Smuts during the summer months.
The parish is cared for by the parish of Dormition in Saskatoon.
